La Plagne has 10 base villages across three altitude tiers — from Montchavin at 1,250m to Plagne 2100 — connected to Les Arcs via the Vanoise Express double-decker cable car to form Paradiski, 425 km of pistes total. The Bellecôte glacier at 3,250m holds reliable snow into late April.

Indicative 2025/26 daily rates for skis + boots across the villages. Oxygène publishes six-day adult packs at €151–264 (about €25–44 a day), Ski Republic and Skiset discount online bookings heavily, and February counter prices are the highest of the season.
The nearest stations are Aime-la-Plagne and Bourg-Saint-Maurice on the TGV and Eurostar ski-train network, with buses climbing to the villages in 30–45 minutes. By air it is roughly 2 h from Chambéry, 3 h from Geneva and 3 h from Lyon. The road up from Aime is well maintained but chains or winter tyres are compulsory in snow, and Saturday transfer traffic is heavy across the whole Tarentaise.
The high villages are built in tiers with lifts, travelators and covered walkways, and most shops offer overnight ski storage, so you rarely carry gear more than a few metres. If you are staying in Montchavin or Les Coches, rent there: the Vanoise Express is a short ski away and there is no reason to move equipment across the mountain.

Roughly 2–3 h. Give the exact village when you book — Plagne Centre, Belle Plagne, Aime 2000 and Montchavin are 10–25 minutes apart by road even though they share one lift pass.

La Plagne is eleven villages, not one. A shop 15 minutes away by ski bus turns into a daily tax on your morning — pick the counter closest to your bed.

Online rates run 25–40% below the counter and, more importantly, guarantee your sizes on the busiest changeover day of the week.
Cross to Les Arcs early
Ride the Vanoise Express before 10:00 and come back by 16:00 — the cabins queue at both ends in the middle of the day, and the last crossing is earlier than you think.
Flat light? Drop to the trees
When the high mountain greys out, Montchavin–Les Coches and Montalbert have proper tree-lined runs where you can still see the snow.
Upgrade the boot, not the ski
Between a Bronze and a Silver package the biggest real difference for most skiers is fit and comfort. A better boot beats a stiffer ski for a week of all-day skiing.
Beginner sets run about €20–25 a day, all-mountain gear €30–35 and performance skis €42–50. Oxygène publishes six-day adult packs from €151 to €264 (roughly €25–44 a day), and online bookings at Ski Republic or Skiset cut 25–40% from counter prices.
The one you are staying in. Every village from Plagne Centre and Belle Plagne to Montalbert, Montchavin and Champagny has its own shops at the snow front, and moving gear between villages is the one avoidable hassle here.
The Paradiski pass does — it covers both resorts and about 425 km of pistes, linked by the Vanoise Express cable car from Montchavin. A cheaper La Plagne-only pass is available if you will not cross the valley.
Slightly. Montalbert, Montchavin, Les Coches and Champagny generally undercut the high purpose-built villages, and the same brands operate there — the trade-off is that you start each day with a lift up rather than a run down.
Yes, most shops in the snow-front galleries offer storage, and the high villages are compact enough that a boot room in your residence covers the rest.
Before you travel for February half-term and the Christmas–New Year weeks, when sizes sell out. In January and March you can usually walk in, though you will pay the counter rate.
